The Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr. Kofi Asumanin has cast doubts over the veracity of the allegations of over bloating of the voter register.
He said the source of the document being quoted was questionable.
According to him, the register in the region did not support the figures being mentioned by those making the allegations.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Mr. Asumanin stated categorically that he had made the accurate figures available to some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who confronted him over the matter.
He stressed that the constituency which recorded the highest voter increase in the region was the Ejura Sekyere Dumasi which had 10.6 per cent increase.
That increase is far below what is being quoted, he noted.
Mr. Asumanin said some constituencies even recorded percentage increases as low as 2.4, 3.5 and so on, giving an average percentage increase of about 7 per cent.
The EC’s Director of elections, Mr. Kofi Arhin also said the source of the figures used for the allegations was doubtful.
He said the commission had not been contacted by anybody asking for the voter register and wondered where the document could have come from.
He challenged those making the allegations to identify the source of the figures.
But a leading member of the Committee for Joint Action, Mr Samuel Ablakwa Okudzeto said the source of the figures was credible.
He said they were "not just blowing hot air" and challenged the headquarters of the EC to explain the figures since the document was sourced from there.
Mr. Ablakwa admitted that the figures contradicted those provided by the Ashanti Regional Office of the EC.
The flag bearer of the NDC, Prof. John Atta Mills made the allegations of the voter being over bloated in 13 constituencies in the Ashanti Region and called for investigations into the matter.
