It has been 25 years since the Queen of the Airwaves, Doreen Andoh began working for The Multimedia Group.
Doreen made her debut on radio, as a news anchor for Joy FM in 1995. Her love of music later drew her to deejaying which turned what she once considered as a hobby into a successful career in broadcasting.
The Queen worked with veteran broadcaster Tommy Annang-Forson, Kofi Tsakpornou, the late Dusty Wayne, Gabby Adjetey, Cox Tamakloe, Mark Okraku Mantey, Kofi Kum Bilson and talented presenters brought a new face to radio when the airwaves were liberalised.
That career in broadcasting has taken her through a series of hosting and co-hosting of programs on radio and television and eventually to her current position as the host of the, The Cosmopolitan Mix - a show she has hosted since 1995.
In June of 2001, Doreen received the Best Presenter of the Year Award – making her the first female to ever receive the award.
In March 2010, she was also crowned Queen of the Airwaves by Leading Ladies' Network for inspiring many young women and also staying strong as one of the most prominent females in the radio industry.
Although many colleagues Doreen began working with had quit The Multimedia Group, she continued to entertain her listeners on Joy FM’s Cosmopolitan Mix and the Lunchtime Rythimz.
The Queen of the Airwaves is the only remaining voice of the station’s original ‘crew’ as she weathered the storm despite the emergence of an array of radio stations and new crop of presenters.
“Congrats Doreen, I remember 1998, you always make my lunchtime beautiful with your choice of music especially, slow jam tracks like uncle Sam, Rome, baby face and more... God bless you!,” one fan Marlon Michael Asiedu wrote on Facebook to celebrate Doreen’s 25 years with the station.
