Emmy award-winning actress Sheryl Lee Ralph has urged Ghanaian filmmakers to learn to work on their own without waiting on anyone to make things happen.
In an interview with JoyNews’ Becky, on her over 40 years experience in Hollywood, the actress said that the only way out for Ghana is to keep pushing.
“You know the industry is changing rapidly, and I hear in Ghana, you have a fledgling industry, well really you don’t have an entertainment industry, and money has to be invested in it. But I was also saying to some of the artists in the room that you do know they are making movies on iPhone 14."
"They are really shooting art on the phones. So if you have a phone and you believe you need to shoot a movie, start using your phones," Sheryl Lee Ralph advised.
She added that nobody should make room for any circumstance to hinder them from making films.
“Don’t stop yourself, because I was never going to let anything stop me. Don’t give up on yourself, I tell everybody get up off the sidelines of your life and get into the game. Start playing, start pitching, start working, keep training. That’s how you keep moving forward," she added.
Sheryl Lee Ralph is an American actress and singer. She made her screen debut in the 1977 comedy film A Piece of the Action, before landing the role of Deena Jones in the Broadway musical Dreamgirls, for which she was nominated for a Tony Award.
She recently won an Emmy for best supporting actress for her role in the hit TV series Abbott Elementary.
