Don’t Parade As Reverend Ministers – Edu-Yao

THE newly-elected president of the Evangelist Union of the Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church, Reverend Esther Malwine Edu-Yao, has cautioned evangelists to desist from parading as reverend ministers to avoid dragging the name of the church into disrepute. "It is unacceptable and against the tenets of theology for evangelists or catechists to parade as reverend ministers, rather you must support reverend ministers towards the growth and development of the church," she stressed. Mrs Edu-Yao gave the caution at an induction service of a nine-member national executives of the union at Ho in the Volta Region. Other members are evangelists J. K. Agborli, vice president, Millicent Adjorlolo, secretary general, Nathan Amengor, deputy secretary general and Gabriel Amesu, treasurer. The rest are evangelists Wilfred Kpedzroku, deputy treasurer, E. K. Agorgor, public relations officer, Vivian Akley and C. K. Adiase, both executive members. Giving a scenario of a driver and his mate, Rev. Edu-Yao observed that "evangelists or catechists should be likened to the driver’s mate who partners the driver and noted that unless the mate calls for passengers, that is the congregation, there will be no church". She pointed out that the growth and development of any church should depend on a dynamic and dedicated evangelist trained to do the work of God. "As evangelists, let us grow and develop our congregation by taking care of them while they also support us with their prayers, since they are bound to face problems," she said. Rev. Edu-Yao thanked the leadership of the church nationwide for the confidence reposed in them and promised that they would tackle their duties with hard work, perseverance, dedica-tion and commitment to the work of God. Preaching the sermon, Reverend Alphonse Kwadzo-Kuma, chairman of the Ho East Presbytery of the E.P. Church, alluded to the fact that the work of evangelists was difficult and urged them to eschew divisive tendencies and unite to enable them to increase the congregation of the church. "Your task is more difficult than that of reverend ministers so you need to remain focused to enable you to effectively collaborate with the reverend ministers so as not to relent in your efforts, " he cautioned.
