The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has asked the public not to panic about purchasing prepaid credits.
Samuel Dubik Mahama, Managing Director of ECG said, “there is no need for that.”
He explained that this is because the Company has addressed all the challenges that affected its metering systems.
Mr Dubik Mahama, at a press conference on Thursday, insisted that all of their platforms are currently operational.
He said these included the vending app on Android mobile phones.
“I would like to reiterate that if your power is not finished, don’t panic, just take your time because if you run out you can buy credit, so we are able to reduce the queues that are forming.
"But all third parties are up. All those with challenges should go to the ECG offices for the issue to be resolved. We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience and we intend to do right for the people of Ghana,” he stated.
Meanwhile, touching on the Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC)’s directive for the institution to compensate the affected customers, he disagreed.
Mr Mahama said that can only be “case by case basis.”
According to him, the compensation cannot be done overboard.
“What we are also seeing is that just by one person saying something, there were panic buys.
There were people that didn’t need to form queues but were in the queues. So, how should I compensate somebody who I shouldn’t compensate?”
