The Most Reverend John Bonaventure Kwofie, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, has urged President John Mahama to honour the pledges he made to the people of Ghana in the lead-up to the 2024 general election.

He called on the President to fulfil his commitments regarding issues such as “galamsey fraud,” LGBTQ rights, and combating corruption, to reflect the trust placed in him by voters.

Most. Rev. Kwofie appealed when he delivered a sermon (Homily) at the Holy Mass to climax the 80th Anniversary Celebrations of the St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Kpehe, Accra on Sunday.

The Celebration was on theme: “Helping Children to seek Christ from discovery to discipleship.”

Most Rev. Kwofie said the outcome of the 2024 general election was testament to the “deep confidence” the people had in the President to put the country on the path of growth and prosperity.

“We voted for you because of what you said on LGBTQ. We are indeed watching you,” he said, adding, “do not disappoint us.”

Most Reverend Kwofie expressed concern about the rate at which corruption was destroying the country and charged leaders to live by example and “sacrifice their lives as ransom for the people.”

“Let your thoughts and actions be consistent with the titles you hold. Ghana should be built on hard work and good conscience,” he added.

Mr Francis-Xavier Sosu, Member of Parliament for Madina, on behalf of President Mahama, assured the Church that the President would fulfil the promises he made to the people of Ghana.

“President Mahama will not disappoint the Church. The National Democratic Congress will not disappoint the people of Ghana,” he said.

Mr. Sosu stated that the Government’s goal to reset the country was a shared responsibility and called on citizens to contribute in their respective fields to help realize the Ghanaian dream.

Founded in 1945 with just 25 parishioners, St. Paul Catholic Church in Kpehe, Accra, has grown to include over 20 Societies over the past eight decades.

The church’s first Holy Mass was celebrated in 1945 at Accra New Town, at the former site of West Africa Secondary School, by Reverend Father Gerhard Fini.

The current Parish Priest, Very Rev. Fr. Casmir Gosu, assumed leadership in 2020, with Rev. Fr. Issac Amoateng Gyasi serving as his assistant until 2024, when he was replaced by Rev. Fr. Derrick Senyo Abbey.
