Former Asante Kotoko International Relations Manager, Yusif Alhassan Chibsah has asked his former club to make their new negotiations policy not applicable in all cases as the club may lose out on desired players.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nana Yaw Amponsah revealed a week ago that the Porcupine Warriors will not be paying hefty amounts as inducement fees to attract players to wear the red jersey.

The new contract structure will ensure better monthly salaries which come as a result of spreading the inducement fees across the contract duration.

With players’ welfare being a matter of interest to Yusif Chibsah who is the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) executive in charge of player relations and welfare, he has applauded such a gesture from the new Kotoko hierarchy.

“Contract negotiations are highly dependent on the parties involved. This policy will help to raise the monthly salaries of players but will lose out on signing on fees which normally serve as capital for investment. The club has her policy so now it is up to the players who are being pursued to either accept or decline,” he told Nhyira Power Sports.

The welfare of footballers in the country has been in the news ahead of the resumption of football after the break due to COVID-19 with players urging football administrators and the GFA to do something about the problem.

Chibsah who is impressed with this course of action by the Kumasi-based outfit advises them not to strictly enter into all negotiations with players targeted for the team.

“The disadvantage is Kotoko may lose out on players to other clubs who will be willing to pay signing on fees. I entreat Kotoko to make this policy flexible as it may not be applicable in all situations when in competition with other clubs for a talent. They can even have something like a salary advance which is just like the signing on fee so that that other clubs may not have the competitive advantage over them,” Chibsah concluded.

Kotoko are hopeful of completing all deals before starting their preparations towards the 2020/2021 CAF Champions League and the Ghana Premier League.
