Mr Moses Assem, North-Tongu District Chief Executive (DCE) has cautioned the country’s youth against engaging in alcoholism, which he said would jeopardize their future.
He said the spate of attractive advertisements of new alcoholic beverages being distilled in the country, had the tendency of trapping many of the country’s future leaders into drinking.
Mr Assem asked the youth to avoid being influenced by the alcoholic advertisement shown on TV, saying the risked having long-term health problems through regular intake of alcohol.
"Never repeat the mistake of others who lost track of their plans due to alcohol," he said.
Mr Assem was addressing a graduation ceremony for 100 ladies at the end of three-month modular job training in vocational skills at the International Needs Ghana Vocational Training Centre (INVDC) on Tuesday at Adidome.
The training session, the eighth so far with the support of the Australian International Agency (AUSAID) took the beneficiaries through bread making, batik tie and dye, soap making, bead designing and confectionery.
Mr Assem noted that people particularly the youth, under the influence of alcohol, have a greater propensity of engaging in reckless and unprotected sex at places such as festivals and funerals with the danger of contracting STDs including HIV/AIDS as well as unplanned pregnancy and parenthood.
The youth, he advised, should avoid all negative practices and unprofitable pastimes that would destruct their focus.
Mr Assem told the participants to form groups and apply for micro funds from the assembly to help them establish jobs in the skills learnt to enhance their livelihood.
