Ghana’s men and women relay teams face a difficult task in their bids to qualify for the 4x100m final at the ongoing IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.
The teams have been handed tough opponents in the semi-finals and must produce their best to qualify for Saturday's final.
The men’s team will come up against defending champions Great Britain, favourites USA and Jamaica with Brazil, Turkey, Germany and hosts Qatar completing the semi-finals lists.
While the women’s team have been paired against Jamaica, Great Britain, Germany, China, Italy, Brazil, and West African rivals Nigeria in the semis.
The teams must finish in the first four with a good time to stand any chance of progressing to the finals.
The first three in each heat automatically advance to the final with the next two fastest runners joining them for the showdown.
Men’s team made up of Joseph Paul Amoah, Benjamin Azamati, Martin Owusu-Antwi, and Sean Safo-Antwi, booked their place in Doha after clinching gold at the 2019 African Games in Morocco with a time of 38.30 seconds.
For the women’s team of Flings Owusu-Agyapong, Gemma Acheampong, Persis William-Mensah and Hor Halutie, they qualified after finishing seventh within a time of 44.77seconds at IAAF World Relay Championships in Yokohama, Japan in May.
