Doctor exposes drug pusher

Kyei Baffour, 32, a suspected drug dealer, collapsed at the Asawase Police Station in Kumasi, where he was rushed last Saturday, January 13, for allegedly swallowing some pellets of a whitish substance believed to be cocaine. He was said to have arrived in Ghana from Holland where he was to have expelled the stuff to a contact group. However, on arrival in Holland, he could not reach the syndicate following very stringent security measures there. Sensing danger he quickly emplaned back to Ghana and immediately went to a private clinic for treatment. The medical officer on examining him detected that he might have taken in some drugs and therefore rushed him to the police station where he collapsed. Baffour was rushed back to the clinic and when operated on, nine pellets were removed from his stomach. The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Frank Adu-Poku, confirmed the story to newsmen here yesterday. He said Baffour, is on admission under police surveillance pending prosecution after treatment. DCOP Adu-Poku said Baffour claimed the stuff was given to him in Italy to be sent to Holland. The Police Commander commended the medical officer whose name he declined to give, for his patriotism and for assisting the country of drug dealings. He said the exhibits would be sent to forensic laboratory for testing. In another development, six suspected armed robbers who have been terrorising residents of Oforikrom, a suburb of Kumasi have been arrested. They are Acquah Harrison Danso, also known as ‘Harristone’, leader of the gang, Agyapong Wilfred, Atta Poku, Enoch Poku, Ebenezer Koffie and Elijah Brown. DCOP Adu-Poku said the suspects on January 12, attacked a family that was watching television amidst sporadic gunshots. During the operation, they succeeded in collecting three million cedis and some mobile telephones valued at three million cedis. Harrison Danso described by the police as "very notorious" was first arrested and after admitting the offence, mentioned the names of his accomplices. The Police Commander said, the case docket had been forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department for study and advice. Meanwhile, the suspects are in the police custody. Times
