A member of the National Economic Dialogue (NED) Committee, Professor John Gatsi, has called for more attention to be given to diaspora remittances during the recently held National Economic Dialogue, stressing their significant impact on Ghana’s economy.
Speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile on Saturday, March 8, Prof Gatsi emphasised the importance of diaspora contributions, particularly through remittances, which play a crucial role in sustaining the country’s financial stability.
"Diaspora issues are very important, they are the ones that deal with remittances, and you know what remittances do to our country," he said.
This was after political activist, Arthur Kennedy indicated that the area was largely sidelines in the grand scheme of things at the just-ended dialogue.
On the back of this, Prof Gatsi added that "We need to highlight diaspora because the remittances that we discussed, they were behind it."
Prof Gatsi pointed out that the topic of diaspora contributions has not been sufficiently spotlighted in discussions around economic governance.
