Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng has been slapped with a two-match ban in Spain for insulting a referee, dealing a severe blow to his club Getafe.
The Competition Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) handed the Getafe player the ban on Tuesday.
This means he will miss the crucial matches against Barcelona and Valencia.
The clash between Boateng and referee Ayza Gamez occurred in the tunnel at the end of Monday’s 2-2 draw with Athletico Bilbao.
The referee recorded the incident in his books and match report which resulted in the ban by the RFEF.
Boateng has not responded to the claims by the referee and his club Getafe are likely to appeal against the decision.
