Denkyira-Asikuma gets community clinic

The Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, on Sunday inaugurated a GH¢ 25.000.00 (¢250 million) community clinic for the people of Denkyira-Asikuma in the Upper Denkyira district. The 12-bed facility has a maternity ward, child welfare unit, consulting room, dispensary, store and two nurse's quarters was funded by "Career Steps" an NGO based in Salt Lake City in the United States of America. It would cater for about 5,000 people in the area including Denkyira-Asikuma, Denkyira Nsueam, Esaase, Berekyiso and Mberedan and provide general health care, antenatal, delivery, immunization and family planning services. Alhaji Mahama commended the NGO and its leader, Dr Kimball Croft, a Plastic Surgeon for assisting the area with the clinic and said this would go a long way to help address the health needs of the people. He challenged Ghanaians to emulate the example of the NGO and also contribute towards the health care of rural communities, adding, "No one can develop this nation for us, if we do not do it ourselves." Alhaji Mahama urged staff of the clinic to give of their best and ensure the regular maintenance of the facility. He later donated GH¢ 200.00 for the operation of the clinic. Source: GNA
