The spokesperson of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu has admonished Muslims to continue exhibiting good character in all their endeavours even after Ramadan.
According to him, the month of Ramadan is set aside not only to renew one's devotion to Allah but also to help improve relations with others.
Speaking on JoyFM's Super Morning Show on April 1, he explained that after spending 29 or 30 days close to Allah, the blessings attracted from spending time in His presence are expected to reflect in all aspects of one's life.
As such, Sheikh Shaibu said, “Fasting itself is not an end in itself. It is a form of devotion but it is not an end in itself. It must lead you to something. That which it must lead you to is that sense of God's presence in your life.
“A sense of which translates into the kind of behavior you exhibit in terms of your sincerity to God. In terms of how you relate with God and your relationship with God your maker and how you also now associate with people of community. This is what the fasting is all about.”
He juxtaposed the process of refining raw materials to refined products, saying similarly, Muslims subject themselves to the pain and agony of hunger and thirst for 29 or 30 days to emerge as "better people and more faithful to God."
Sheikh Shaibu said this refinement must reflect the beauty of behaviour, these traits he said make Muslims unique.
“That refinement must come in our honesty, our sincerity, sense of devotion, mutual love, solidarity, sympathy with the needy, the afflicted of society, generosity, what we do to bring hope and smile on the face of the afflicted but also the other side of it is that a means to eschew the vices of society. Especially at the time when we know our society is afflicted by a lot of vices,” he added.
Meanwhile, he said the Chief Imam and the entire Muslim community would pray for the nation during their congregational prayers later in the day.
