Delta Airlines launches internship program in Ghana

Delta Air Lines Monday announced the start of its first Business School Internship programme in Ghana, offering interns on-the-job training and valuable work experience. A statement from the company quoted the company’s Commercial Manager for West and East Africa, Bobby Bryan as saying “we are delighted to start this dedicated intern programme here in Ghana which further emphasizes our continued and deepening involvement in this market.” He said the idea was to give young business students an opportunity to learn how a global company operates, and to build on their skills and support future career opportunities. Bryan said Delta was developing its intern program across Western and Eastern Africa and was working with local business schools in Nigeria, Kenya and Senegal in addition to Ghana. He said during the one-year programme, students would learn how a global business operates by working in the sales force, handling specific projects and making analytical presentations. “We are delighted that Delta’s first Business Student Intern in Ghana is Arthur Mills,” Bryan said. “Arthur recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Ashesi University College and has now started work in Delta’s Accra office. Arthur’s year will culminate in a trip to Atlanta, where he will meet with relevant managers and take a tour of Delta’s headquarters.” Delta currently operates daily overnight nonstop service from Accra’s Kotoka International airport to the United States, with four weekly service to New York-JFK and three weekly service to Atlanta, as well as three weekly service to Monrovia, Liberia. Delta will celebrate five years of operating from Accra later this year. Delta Air Lines serves more than 160 million customers in 355 destinations in 65 countries each year, and was named by Fortune Magazine as the most admired airline worldwide in its 2011 World's Most Admired Companies airline industry list.
