Delta Air Lines will launch its nonstop service between Accra’s Kotoka International Airport and Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, effective 2 June 2010, subject to government approval.
The flight will operate three times per week using a 216-seat Boeing 767-300 aircraft. The flight will complement the airline’s existing nonstop service from Accra to New York JFK.
“We are delighted that the start of our Atlanta service will benefit our customers with more travel options between Ghana and the United States,” said Bobby Bryan, Delta’s commercial manager for West and East Africa.
“Via Delta’s Atlanta hub, this flight will provide passengers with more than 150 convenient connections to popular destinations within North America, Latin America and the Caribbean.”
The nonstop service is part of a series of schedule enhancements to strengthen Delta’s international network for summer 2010, including the re-instatement of service on 16 nonstop transatlantic routes, fueled by Delta’s growing joint venture with Air France KLM throughout Europe.
“No other airline has the alliance partners, fleet flexibility or network breadth to consistently deliver new routes for customers while at the same time being responsible in managing capacity in the face of a global economic recession,” said Glen Hauenstein, Delta’s executive vice president – Network Planning and Revenue Management. “As America’s flag carrier to the world, Delta’s 2010 schedule will bring new nonstop service to dozens of communities around the globe, thanks to the strength of our worldwide alliances.”
The new flight between Ghana and the United States is available for booking and passengers flying from Ghana may check in up to two bags weighing up to 23kg each when travelling to and from the United States.
