The Information Minister has revealed that government has not yet decided when schools will fully reopen for all students.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the research to assist government’s decision has not yet been finalised.
Hence, all students excluding final year students of junior and senior high schools are to remain home until further notice.
President Nana Akufo-Addo on March 15, ordered the closure of all schools and universities in Ghana as his administration moves to stem the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
At the time, Ghana had recorded six cases of the disease within a period of less than 48 hours.
Subsequently, the president in one of his televised address announced the reopening of schools for final year students at all levels of education on Monday, June 15, 2020.
He explained that it is to allow final-year students to go back to school to prepare for their final examinations.
However, three weeks into schools reopening, some senior high schools across the country have reported cases of Covid-19.
This has made parents, teacher unions and Civil Society Organisations to urge government close down schools.
But, responding to their calls, Mr Oppong Nkrumah said “the schools are safe because only about 95 out of the 1.3 million student population are affected and that does not warrant closure of schools.”
