Two individuals have tragically lost their lives in the ongoing Bawku conflict, which has seen a rise in violence and unrest in the region.
The victims were ambushed while travelling in a truck from Bawku when unidentified assailants opened fire on their vehicle, resulting in their deaths.
Among the deceased was a Mamprusi, while the other was a Togolese national who had travelled to Bawku to care for his ailing father.
Sadly, the father passed away during their stay, and the two were en route to Togo with the deceased body when the ambush occurred.
The Bawku conflict, rooted in long-standing chieftaincy disputes and ethnic tensions, has led to significant unrest in the area over the past few years.
The recent escalation of violence is attributed to the return of a rival chief, which reignited tensions between different ethnic groups.
In recent months, the situation has deteriorated further, with clashes between various groups resulting in fatalities and widespread fear among the residents.
Despite the deployment of security forces to restore peace, incidents of violence persist.
With this latest incident, the death toll in the Bawku conflict has now reached 19.
