The British High Commissioner, Iain Walker on Day 2 of his ‘TheGhanaGrand’ bicycle tour passed through the sleepy village of Navarubie.
The beautiful town in the Sisala East Municipality lies along the only road connecting the Upper East and Upper West regions.
‘The Ghana Grand’ tour team is scheduled to travel between these two regions – from Bolgatanga to Tumu.
The diplomat and his team are on a cross-country cycling adventure covering over 800 kilometres from Paga in the Upper East Region to the capital, Accra, to raise funds.
Day 2 of the trip was due to begin Friday morning through Navarubie, however, on Thursday evening the waters of the Bagre Dam were suddenly spilt without warning.
There was no ‘plan B’ on Friday, so the British High Commissioner hopped on his bike and continued their tour.
The British envoy and his riding partner, Joel Downham, promptly began the Ghana Grand Tour right there in Navarubie, 18km earlier than planned.
After riding less than half a mile, they then waded through shallow but rapid floodwaters.
And with the help of some friendly locals, the British envoy and his team waded through the precarious, fast-flowing water to the other side for the adventure to continue.
#TheGhanaGrand is off to an eventful start, and the elements came out to meet us in torrents. Thankful for the great people of Navarubie (prounounced Navaruwie) who came to help us overcome our first challenge and then cheer us on! pic.twitter.com/xBUrHg8Cxw
