The national leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), in consultation with the National Council, has decided to replace the sitting Member of Parliament for Nkwakaw in the Eastern Region, Joseph Frempong, ahead of the 2024 parliamentary elections.
This decision was made during an emergency meeting held in Accra on Tuesday, September 3.
Joseph Frempong, who is currently facing health challenges, will be unable to participate in the intensive campaigns required for the upcoming elections.
As a result, David Asante, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Publishing Company Limited, has been selected as the NPP's parliamentary candidate for the Nkwakaw constituency.
Mr Asante, an indigene of Nkwakaw, had contested Joseph Frempong in the party's parliamentary primary in January 2024 but lost to the incumbent MP.
With this development, Mr Asante will now represent the NPP in the 2024 general elections.
