A father, who inflicted severe body wounds on his seven year old son with a cable wire rendering him incapacitated, was on Thursday sentenced to a 24-month jail term.
The apology of the 28-year old Ahmed Jalloh, a computer technician, to his son in open court did not attract any leniency from the presiding judge, Mrs Larenda Owusu.
Jalloh was therefore sentenced on his own plea of guilty for causing harm.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Sarah Acquah said the accused was living with his son, Master John Kwabena Jalloh, a class one pupil of Tema Padmore School at Tema site “15” while the mother stayed at site 20.
She said the parents were not living together because no marital rite was performed when the pregnancy occurred.
Chief Inspector Acquah said on January 13 this month, John visited the mother without the knowledge of the father.
She said later in the evening when the father got to know that the son was with the mother, he became angry and subjected the boy to severe beatings with a cable wire when he returned home.
The prosecutor said Jalloh beat the son mercilessly and continued to do that despite blood oozes from the wounds inflicted on him and later locked him indoors for two days.
When later he realized that the victim’s condition was deteriorating he sent him to the Tema Polyclinic for treatment where the police was informed about the case.
Chief Inspector Acquah said Jalloh attempted to escape but he was apprehended and charge accordingly.
