President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Dr. Humphrey Ayim-Darke, is calling for a policy that links production of famers and manufacturing firms in the country.
According to him, the current aggregate impact of commercial farmers on Ghana's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is very small, hence the need for a collaboration between industries and the commercial farmers.
Speaking on PM Express Business Edition, he explained that the output of farmers may go waste if industries continue to struggle due to high taxes and other economic challenges.
"We need to make a policy intervention for the firms to absorb the proceeds from these farmers, else I doubt we will see any significant impact on our GDP".
"Let's support them and deliberately make interventions in the industries which will go a long way to support both sectors”, he added.
Dr. Darke also called for a regulated system that better serves the interest of Ghana's economy, providing stability and support for the manufacturing sector to thrive.
He stressed that the current state of Ghana's economy allows for individuals to import without adequate regulations which he says is affecting the manufacturing sector.
“There is the need to look at the entire value chain across all sectors. We need to be swift and smart with how we go about the operations of our sectors”, he added.
The President of the AGI concluded that his outfit is committed to engaging the government on their concerns.
