As part of the celebrations marking Promasidor Ghana’s (PGH) 25th anniversary, its popular dairy brand, Cowbell and culinary brand, Onga handed over nine borehole facilities to selected communities in the Northern, Upper East, Volta, Eastern and Oti regions.
Promasidor handed over a mechanised borehole to Tolon Senior High School in the Northern Region, with eight communities in Kayera, Praprabida, and Akim Awisa in the Eastern Region; Adoman, Yaborae and Gyanekrom in Oti Region, Abutia-Kloe in the Volta Region and Kasongo-Kubogo in Upper East receiving boreholes fitted with hand pumps.
The water supply project is part of the Promasidor Community Impact Drive (PCID), which aims to support sustainable projects that foster social change, enhance the quality of life, and address pressing societal needs, especially for vulnerable groups.
The initiative specifically targets communities without access to safe drinking water, ensuring they have a reliable source of clean water.
Promasidor’s Commercial Director, Abiodun Ayodeji, highlighted the manufacturing giant’s commitment to providing access to clean water to contribute to the sustained well-being of every Ghanaian society and to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6: Availability and Sustainable Management of Water and Sanitation for All.
“From 2019 till date, we have supported more than 33 communities in Ghana with access to potable water.
"As a caring brand dedicated to providing healthy and quality dairy products like Cowbell and Twisco for breakfast, Onga products in every Ghanaian dish, and Yumvita for our young ones, we are passionate about alleviating the unsafe drinking water challenges faced by communities.
"These challenges can significantly impact the health, education, socio-economic status, and general well-being of community members, especially women and children,” Mr. Ayodeji stated.
The Commercial Director charged respective community leaders and members to preserve the facility to ensure long-term benefits.
“We encourage the respective user communities and local government partners to ensure the sustainable use of these completed projects.”
Robel Wamisho, Program Manager for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) at World Vision Ghana, emphasised the capacity of the new water supply projects to provide safe water to community members who previously depended on unsafe water sources.
“World Vision Ghana strongly believes that partnerships are crucial to maximizing and multiplying the impact of sustainable Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene projects.
"We are grateful to Promasidor Ghana Ltd for their immense contribution and support,” Mr. Wamisho stated.
A representative from one of the beneficiary communities in Afram Plain, Belinda Kumatu, a Senior Enrolled Nurse at the Praprabebida CHPS Compound expressed heartfelt appreciation to Cowbell and World Vision for their support in providing clean and safe drinking water.
"We pledge to take good care of the facility and ensure its longevity for the benefit of all community members,” she said.
