The Ashanti Regional Health Director has charged the Covid-19 Safety taskforce, to tighten methods and ensure the compliance of citizens to the lockdown directive.
Dr Emmanuel Tinkorang said he is unhappy with how some citizens are flouting the directive, endangering their lives and those of others.
“They [security agencies} should apply the rules even if there is the need to take the recalcitrant to court and prosecute them, they should do it.
“Some few examples like this, will show others that we are really serious. Let us enforce all the laws and I believe that that will be the key,” he was categorical.
President Nana Akufo-Addo in a televised national address on Friday, March 27, imposed restrictions in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area and Greater Kumasi as part of efforts to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
Adding that the lockdown is to last for two weeks, he said anyone who breaches the directive will be “dealt with in accordance with the law.”
However, Mr Tinkorang observed since the lockdown took effect on Monday, March 30, some headstrong residents of Kumasi still come out and do not practice the precautionary measures particularly, social distancing.
“We are in a very difficult situation because when people get infected they become carriers and infect others around them making our work very difficult in the process.
“So people who think they can be ‘jokers’ and go by their usual routine, the system should deal with them so that we can save others who are committed.”
