A leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Isaac Adongo, has stated that the Covid-19 pandemic helped the New Patriotic Party more than it affected Ghanaians.
Speaking at a Public Forum by the NDC on Wednesday, the Bolgatanga Central MP indicated that even though the advent of the pandemic imposed difficulties on Ghanaians, it gave the NPP an opportunity to better their efforts in the management of the economy.
According to him, towards the end of 2019, Ghana's economy was sinking. However, with the emergence of the pandemic, the NPP was able to make some inroads to salvage the dwindling situation.
The legislator, therefore, stated that the pandemic rescued the NPP better than it damaged Ghanaians.
"I've always said these people were very very lucky because they're the very good friends of Covid-19. Covid-19 actually rescued these people better than it damaged Ghanaians.
"And all the indicators reflect the fact that 2019, Ghana was headed in a very wrong direction, and that it was becoming almost impossible to deal with the propaganda and to deal with the PR because the truth would expose you", Isaac Adongo stressed.
Mr Adongo also accused the incumbent of using PR techniques to give a false impression about the state of affairs in the country, even in the face of glaring difficulties.
This he said was proof of the government's inability to manage the economy after taking over the reins of power some five years.
"We are where we are because unfortunately, we handed over power to a group of people who have chosen not to manage the economy for five years. A group of people who have specialised in using PR and managing narratives to enforce a certain belief system on us even if they do not exist.
"A group of people who have been concentrated on always making us believe that the economy is rosy. Even when we get home and can't find a meal, they still tell us the economy is the best", Mr Adongo added.
The forum, which was christened the 'Awudie Budget' saw the NDC expressing their reservations about the 2022 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, presented by the Finance Minister on November 17.
In this regard, the NDC lamented the content of the Budget with specific emphasis on the controversial 1.75% e-levy. According to the party, the proposed tax policy will heighten the level of hardship in the country, and make life more difficult for citizens.
Wednesday's public forum at the Alisa Hotel in Accra also witnessed presentations by the party's National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi and Member of Parliament for the Asunafo South Constituency, Eric Opoku.
