The Circuit Court at Ejisu has remanded two students and a trader who allegedly robbed a tutor of the Ejisuman Secondary School.
The plea of Sampson Asiama Badu, a final-year student of Ejisuman Secondary School, Nana Adjei, a second-year student of the Mount Mary’s Teacher Training College at Somanya and Kwaku Appiah, a trader, was not taken and they will re-appear before the court on March 27.
Counsel for the students prayed the court to grant their clients bail to enable them prepare for their examinations but the court, presided over by Mrs Joyce Bamfo refused.
The court however ordered that Badu, who is the final-year student, be escorted by the police to the examination hall to write his mock papers.
Police Inspector Jacob Asumaning told the court that on March 10, this year at about 2300 hours, the tutor, Mr Anthony Amponsah went to Ejisu town to collect the sales of his “Tigo” unit transfer from his shop.
He said on his way back to the campus, he met Badu alias “Corrupt” who is a student of the school and they decided to go together.
On the way, the prosecutor said they heard a voice ordering them to stop and sensing danger, the tutor took to his heels but luck was not on his side as Adjei and Appiah, who had then laid ambush, came out and attacked him.
They inflicted cutlass wounds on his head, took away his personal mobile phone, one “Tigo-to-Tigo” transfer phone and unspecified amount of money from him.
Inspector Asumaning said in the course of the attack, Badu looked on quietly without doing anything or running away until the attackers fled to the bush and he also ran to the town and boarded a taxi to his house without informing anyone about the incident.
The prosecution said an eyewitness who spotted the victim in an unconscious state raised the alarm and he was conveyed to hospital.
Inspector Asumaning said a report was later made to the police by the victim’s wife and after investigations the three were arrested.
