Isaac Kojo Smith, a 31-year-od optical technician was on Friday remanded in custody by a circuit court in Cape Coast for allegedly stealing a Laptop computer and compact disc belonging to one Mr Efo Kojo.
He pleaded not guilty and would reappear on Friday March 2.
Prosecuting chief inspector Hope Azasoo told the court, presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu, that sometime in July last year, Mr. Kojo boarded an Accra –Takoradi bound STC bus with his computer in a bag which also contained other items, including a compact disc with the inscription “Final draft”.
He said when the bus got to Cape Coast it stopped for the passengers to have 15 minutes rest and that Mr Kojo left his bag in the bus and went to the washroom and Smith, who was also in the bus took advantage and picked Mr Kojo’s bag and left the bus.
He said Mr Kojo continued his journey to Takoradi and on reaching, he detected that his bag containing the computer had been stolen.
Chief inspector Azasoo said on December 22 2006, Smith was arrested for stealing another Laptop computer and during a search in his room, computers, motor certificates and compact discs, including that of Mr Kojo were found.
He said an announcement was therefore made for people to identify their missing items and that it was during the identification exercise that Mr Kojo identified his compact disc with the inscription ‘Final Draft’ which he had kept in the bag that contained his Laptop computer.
In a related development Smith was granted 50 million cedis bail by the same court for using the same modus operandi to steal another Laptop computer, an SIC motor certificate and a Ghanaian Passport belonging to a medical doctor in Accra.
