A 24-year-old convict, Cephas Mornyuie, who escaped from prison custody after feigning illness, has been sentenced to 10 years in jail in hard labour by a Hohoe Circuit Court.
Mornyuie was convicted on his own plea to three counts of issuing death threat, stealing and escaping.
Detective Chief Inspector Samuel Gbedemah, prosecuting, told the Court, presided over by Mr Samuel Sarpong-Appiah, that Mornyuie, who was already serving a four-year jail sentence for stealing, feigned illness and later escaped while receiving medical care under a prison guard at Kpando in March this year.
He said the convict got away on a bicycle valued at GH¢30 belonging to one Mr James Gordon.
Chief Inspector Gbedemah said Mornyuie threatened to hack down a police officer, who attempted to arrest him with an axe.
