A Takoradi Circuit Court "A" on Wednesday, fined Safohene Kofi Ampofo a 45 year old farmer at Nsuaem six million cedis for causing harm.
Ampofo pleaded not guilty and would serve three years imprisonment in hard labour in default.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Theophilius Agbemordzi, told the court that the accused and Cynthia Baidoo an iced water seller had been in a relationship since October 2005.
He said the accused visited Cynthia regularly at her house at Agona-Nkwanta and sometime last year, Cynthia asked the accused to pay her rent advance of 100,000 cedis.
Police Inspector Agbemordzi said the accused refused to pay the rent and demanded that Cynthia's former boyfriend should pay.
He said at about 4.00 p.m. on January 14 this year, the accused visited Cynthia with some foodstuffs and asked her to prepare a meal.
Police Inspector Agbemordzi said at about 8.00 p.m. Cynthia laid the table for the accused to eat while she went to take her bath.
He said Cynthia told the accused that she would not allow him (accused) to spend the night with her because he refused to pay her rent advance.
Police Inspector Agbemordzi said the accused sneaked into the bathroom when Cynthia undressed and started bathing and threw some acid on her.
He said Cynthia sustained burns on her body including her private parts and screamed for help.
Police Inspector Agbemordzi said the accused left the scene when people started rushing to the house and Cynthia was taken to Dixcove Government Hospital where she was admitted.
He said the following day, the accused visited Cynthia at the hospital and she pointed out the accused as the culprit and he was arrested and charged with the offence after investigations.
