A couple was on Monday arraigned before a circuit court in Cape Coast for allegedly possessing 21 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The pleas of Kwesi Eshun 30, a sand winner, and his wife, Efua Joyce, a 36-year-old labourer, were not taken. Eshun was remanded in custody while his wife was granted bail in the sum of GH¢5,000.00 with a surety to be justified, because of her ill health.
They are to reappear on 16 November 2007.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo, told the court, presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu, that the couple resided at Kwaprow near the University of Cape Coast and that on October 15, the narcotics unit of the police service arrested them with 21 wrappers of dried leaves and some seeds suspected to be Indian Hemp.
He said during interrogation, Eshun claimed ownership of the leaves. The prosecutor informed the court that the leaves would be sent to the forensic laboratory for testing.
