President John Mahama has assured the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the people of the Ashanti Region that his administration will ensure the region receives its fair share of national development resources.
President Mahama expressed his gratitude to the Ashanti Region for its significant support in the 2024 elections, despite it being traditionally seen as an opposition stronghold.
He said this during his visit to the Manhyia Palace for the first Akwasidae Festival of the year 2025.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank Asanteman. Many might not consider this the stronghold of my party, but in this election, I believe that the confidence and the votes that the Ashanti Region gave us contributed to the overwhelming victory that I scored,” President Mahama said.
He added, “And so I can assure you that you can count on me, and that when we are sharing the national cake, I will make sure that the Ashanti Region gets its fair share.”

President Mahama also expressed gratitude to the region for its pivotal contribution to his electoral victory in the 2024 presidential election.
This is despite the fact that the region is not considered his party's stronghold.
The President’s visit also included plans to engage in a private meeting with the Asantehene, where discussions are expected to center on pressing national issues, including the Bawku conflict.
The Akwasidae Festival, a significant cultural event for the Ashanti people, provided a fitting platform for President Mahama to reaffirm his commitment to the region’s progress and development as part of his broader national agenda.
