The Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly (ASMA) of the Eastern Region has cautioned landlords to desist from sheltering illegal immigrants, amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Municipal Chief Executive Officer, Kojo Ofori- Safo in a notice to various opinion leaders and heads of state institutions within the municipality, indicated that persons found indulging in such acts, will be arrested and prosecuted together with the tenants.

The notice outlines measures the assembly has adopted to contain the spread of the coronvirus should a case be recorded in the municipality.

The MCE in the notice, outlined 17 other directive he expects residents to adhere to, to ensure people are not infected by the viral infection.

“Children under the age of 10 years should not be sent to the market or any major public place within this period until further notice,” one of the rules read.

Mr Ofori- Safo also noted that traders and customers at market centres must always be in Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) particularly nose masks and hand gloves.

He then appealed to assembly members to intensify public education on the safety protocols using community information centres in their various electoral areas.

“Staying alive is the most important thing right now and your cooperation is therefore non-negotiable. Please stay at home!”

The Eastern Region has so far recorded 51 coronavirus cases out of Ghana’s 1,042 confirmed cases.
