Mr. James Okyere, Techiman Municipal co-operative officer, has advised members of co-operative unions to protect the interests of the unions to be able to achieve set goals.
He noted that most unions and associations became dormant because members tried to pursue their interests at the expense of those of their unions.
Mr. Okyere gave the advice at the inauguration of Brong-Ahafo Co-operative Yam Producers and Sellers Union in Techiman.
The union’s members are drawn from Nkoranza, Prang, Atebubu, Sunyani, Zambarima, Wenchi, Subinso and Techiman.
Mr. Okyere asked the members to unite as a group to pursue and achieve set goals instead confronting problems individually and urged them to explore new ways of adding value to their products.
Mr. Seidu K. Kramo, Kintampo district co-operative officer, called on the members to pay their taxes regularly and use only approved receipts in their activities to ensure accountability.
Nana Abena Kyeremaa, queen of Techiman central market, expressed the hope that the re-introduction of the union would help provide a common platform for yam producers and sellers to address their problems.
Mr. Rockson Addia, chairman of the union, pledged that the executives would work hard enough to advance the interests of the union.
