It has emerged that one Samuel Amponsah, a 30-year-old cook at Ghana’s High Commission in Ottawa, Canada, peddled an obvious untruth about being beaten up by the 11-year old son of Dr. (Mrs.) Ivy Margaret Amoakohene, the High Commissioner.
The Crusading GUIDE says it can confirm that it was a cock and bull story by the young man to secure an asylum in Canada. Documentary evidence available to the newspaper also shows that the cook lied when he reported to Canadian authorities that Dr. Ivy Margaret Amoakohene had collected an amount of 7,000 Canadian dollars, being the cook’s plane fare.
A source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has told the paper that the Ministry’s investigation into the matter had already given the man away since all monies paid to him were recorded. “When people want to embark on their personal selfish interest, they should not drag the image of the country into disrepute. It is not only shameful, but also painful that our own native is stabbing Ghana at her back. That young man should know that Ghana awaits him”, said the paper’s source.
Asked why the Ministry had not issued a statement condemning Amponsah’s action, the source said “you see we don’t do that; we here at the Ministry are clear in our minds that the boy was lying and he is not the only one who has done so.
“We have done what we have to do and are sure that the Canadian authorities would come to that conclusion, no matter how long it takes. The days of fooling people for asylum are over. Such stories no longer hold any water for asylum seekers”, he submitted.
The Ministry also confirmed that there was malfeasance within the High Commission which was being cleaned up by Dr. Margaret Amoakohene.
The paper has promised further exposes on the activities of the cook, including how he got to the main Protocol Section of the Canadian Ministry of External Affairs; Who is Ms Annobil? What one Yaw Yirenkyi has been up to.
