Work on the rehabilitation of some roads in the Volta Region have been stalled for alleged non-payment of work done to contractors. Some of the affected roads are in Hohoe, Jasikan and Kadjebi Districts. Some contractors working on the projects speaking to Ghana News Agency alleged that they abandoned the projects because they had not been paid for work done. They contended that the projects estimated at about 20 million Ghana Cedis were to be financed from the Ghana Road Fund and other sources. Some of the abandoned projects are, the 7.3 kilometre Kadjebi-Dzindzinso road financed under the fund at 1.8 million Ghana cedis, the six-kilometre Jasikan-Bodada road estimated at 590,000 Ghana cedis being financed by the International Development Agency. The rest are the three-kilometre Hohoe town roads estimated at 1.7 million Ghana cedis, while the contractor working on an additional five kilometre Hohoe town roads could not be traced. Mr Kofi Adjei Ntim, Kadjebi District Chief Executive told GNA that Mustek Construction Company engaged on the Kadjebi-Dzindzinso link road christened 'missing link', Messrs Pakwell Company Limited, working on Kadjebi town roads and Messrs Core, responsible for the Kadjebi-Asato road network had abandoned their projects. He noted that the Papasi-junction through Papase and Dodo Amanfro-Ahamansu roads constructed by Esteldan Company a few months ago was in a deplorable state. Mr Solomon Kwame Donkor, Jasikan District Chief Executive said road contractors working in the district abandoned their projects about four months ago. He said officials of Ghana Highways Authority and Department of Feeder Roads had been notified about the situation. Mr Donkor said the affected roads included Worawora-Jasikan, Hohoe-Jasikan, Jasikan-Kadjebi and Jasikan roundabout. Mr John Peter Amewu, Hohoe Chief Executive said plans were far advanced to re-award Hohoe town roads project previously awarded to Gohez Construction Limited for non-performance. Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister cut the sod for commencement of work on these projects in February this year. Source: GNA
