Mr Effah Guakro, President of the Nkoranza District branch of the Society of Physically Challenged, has called on aspiring politicians to consider their plight by initiating plans to enhance their welfare. Mr Guakro who spoke to the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza described as deplorable the welfare of the physically challenged, which he said had for a long time received very little attention from governments. “It is necessary for presidential aspirants to include the welfare of the disabled in their manifestoes”, he said. Mr Guakro appealed to politicians to conduct their electioneering campaigns in a decent manner to ensure peaceful elections. He expressed regret about crisis in some African countries which has come about as a result of partisan politics. “It is very disheartening to note that, whenever there are conflicts and disputes, it is the women and children and the disabled who are disadvantaged”, Mr Guakro added. He advised the youth of various political parties to shun insults, provocative statements and defamation of character during electioneering campaigns to avoid confusion. He urged media practitioners to be circumspect in their political reportage and avoid statements that could fuel tension or create problems. Mr Guakro advised the disabled who had attained the age of 18 years to register so they could exercise their franchise during the December general elections. On behalf of the Executive Committee of the Nkoranza District Society of the Disabled, Mr Guakro congratulated the Nkoranza North District Chief Executive, Madam Grace Obeng Donkor, on her appointment as the political leader in the new District.
