But in the end it was Conquerors who etched their name in the Rugby book of records with an unbeaten run to win the league
According to Mr. Simba Mangena, coach of Conquerors SC, club rugby is the grooming grounds for international superstars and was therefore pleased with the improvement in performance by each club this season.
“I extend my gratitude to the players for putting up an outstanding performance on the day and I’m happy every player of my team came out to do his job to make the day successful. I always say that club rugby is the building grounds for international superstars and it is good to see our clubs in Ghana developing”, said Simba.
The defending champions, Cosmos Buffaloes RFC, came third after defeating Idas Sports RFC by 48-3 in the 3rd place match played earlier in the day.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Steve Noi, Tournament Commissioner, disclosed that the technical team is putting up a squad from which a team will be formed to represent Ghana in May at the Seven’s Africa North tournament in Togo.
Mr. Noi also mentioned that the next season of the GRCC will commence in October but there will be a seven’s tournament to prepare clubs before the league.
“Right now we are getting a squad together and from that squad we shall get a team to Lome in Togo to play the Seven’s Africa West tournament which will be taking place on 28th of May. I think the season normally starts in October so between this time and October we will be having the seven’s tournament in a few weeks’ time to prepare players for the next season”, he uttered.
The event was graced by the president of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation, Mr. Frederick Otu Lartey, who presented the trophies and medals to the winning teams. Other dignitaries included Mr. Joshua Mensah, Deputy Director General: Technical of the National Sports Authority and Mr. and Mrs. Kwesi, special guests of the President.

“There have been noticeable improvements in both the on and off the field aspects of the 2015/16 Ghana Rugby Club Championship and we can only hope that this trend will continue for the 2016/17 Championship,” Mr. Mensah said.
Mr. Mensah continued to say that it is essential that the Regional Associations take total charge, including the funding, of the 2016/17 GRCC so that he and his administration can focus on issues of national interest such as youth development under the World Rugby “Get Into Rugby” banner, the development of Women’s Rugby, the strengthening of technical capabilities through training programmes and the development of regional West Africa Rugby tournaments.
