President Akufo-Addo has assured Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) that the Conduct of Public Officers (CoPO) Bill will be passed before he leaves office.

According to him, the draft bill is still undergoing legislative processes and will soon be presented to Parliament.

"By this same token, the Conduct of Public Officers Bill has passed the scrutiny of the Cabinet Committee of Government and is now ready for presentation to the full Cabinet, after which it will be presented to Parliament for its action. I am extremely hopeful that this will be accomplished before I leave office," he assured.

He made these remarks during the Annual Ghana Bar Association Conference in Kumasi on September 9.

President Akufo-Addo’s statement comes as a coalition of CSOs expressed disappointment over the Cabinet's reluctance to approve CoPO Bill for enactment.

In a joint press release on September 4, the coalition criticised the Cabinet's claim that existing laws are adequate to address the conduct of public officers, urging the government to expedite the bill's approval and forward it to Parliament.

On the back of this, President Akufo-Addo reassured the CSOs that there was no need for concern, as he is committed to overseeing the entire process.

The CoPO Bill, which has been pending since 2008, aims to introduce reforms in the declaration of assets and liabilities, address conflicts of interest, and establish a code of conduct for public officials.
