The Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, His Royal Majesty Torgbuiga Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V has tasked politicians to eschew ethnicity and put the national interest ahead of the interest of political parties.
Torgbuiga Fiti gave the advice when an aspiring flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, Kojo Bonsu paid him a courtesy call in his Palace at Aflao.
He noted that it is sad for political leaders to only focus on the interest of their respective parties instead of the country that gave them the opportunity to become political leaders.
Torgbuiga Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V said politicians have concentrated too much on party ideology instead of the nation's democracy and the issues that need to be urgently tackled.
The Paramount Chief said at the grassroots level, there is rapport and cohesion between the citizens and instead of politicians building on that, they rather practice divide-and-rule tactics on the citizens, a situation he said is very worrying and needs to be addressed.
He noted that the leaders of the various political parties especially, NDC and NPP tend to forget the essence of democracy anytime they are given the chance to stir the affairs of the country leaving Ghanaians frustrated.
Torgbuiga Fiti V noted concentration on party ideology instead of the nation's ideology and interest makes it difficult to focus on the aims and objectives of governing the country.
"You political leaders always turn to focus only on the interest and ideologies of your respective parties instead of the nation's ideology and interest, a situation which is worrying," Torgbuiga Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V said.
He, however, urged Mr. Kojo Bonsu to take a cue from the good leadership style to excel in his political career.
