Ghana, in the first half of 2020, recorded 1,141 deaths as a result of road accidents.
This was an 8.79% drop from 2019 road accidents of the same period which stood at 1,251.
Of the 1,141 dead, 909 were males and 232 were females.
The data further showed a 22.85% decrease in pedestrian knockdowns as the figure dropped from 1,523 in 2019 to 1,175 in 2020.
Also, the number of pedestrians killed dropped from 381 between January and June 2019 to 305 in 2020.
Motorcycles, meanwhile, accounted for 440 of those killed, and 2,080 of those injured in road accidents.
The country recorded a 12.98% increase in motorcycle crashes in the first half of 2020 at 2,553 as compared to 2019’s 2,260 in the same period last year.

They sought to explore how traffic laws are not being adhered to leading to these high numbers of road accidents and what can be done legally to curb these offences.
