The British Council Ghana is urging all Ghanaians who graduated from British universities to return home, build network and support the socio-economic development of the country.
This is part of the Alumni UK agenda – a new global network for people from around the world who have studied in the UK – to support the growth of their respective countries.
Acting Country Director of British Council Ghana, Chikodi Onyemerela, said it is very important for Ghanaians who had the opportunity to study in the UK to return to the country and impact on the socio-economic development of the country.
“The British Council was founded to create a friendly knowledge and understanding between the people of the UK and other countries. We believe that international student mobility builds that long lasting connections and mutually beneficial relationships”, he added.
“Alumni UK is our new global network for people around the world who have studied in the UK as oversees students. The British Council knows how important it is to work with international UK alumni. We have had such success with the alumni Awards which celebrates the brilliant talents of UK Alumni, that we have decided to expand our alumni offer and reach out to UK alumni in all countries where we work, right around the world”, he further outlined.

Alumni UK, a global professional network for people who studied in the UK was launched specifically for the members to find new opportunities internationally, share and showcase their skills as well as connect to an impressive network of alumni globally.
“By joining Alumni UK, you can grow your worldwide professional network, continue learning and sharing your experience and expertise with others. You will find resources to develop your career and new opportunities to help you succeed. It is also a place where you can celebrate your connection with the UK and keep up to date with the UK culture”, Mr. Onyemerela said.
The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, is optimistic the network will grow to become the biggest in Ghana in future.
According to her, the British High Commission and its associates will support the project to aid the socio-economic development of Ghana.
