Ghana sealed a 2-0 victory in the first leg of their FIFA U20 Women's World Cup qualifier against Senegal on Saturday evening.

The Black Princesses claimed a vital win in the final round of qualifiers to take them closer to qualifying for the tournament to be staged in Morocco.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies' Tracey Twum scored a brace in the game to secure the victory for Yusif Basigi's side, who now need to avoid defeat in the second fixture.

Twum opened the scoring early in the game after Maafia Nyame unselfishly played her through on goal after receiving a brilliant pass from the midfield.

The lead was doubled in the seventh minute with Twum completing her brace with a thunderous strike from outside the penalty box.

Maafia Nyame should have put the game beyond the reach of Senegal just before the break but her effort from close range was saved by the home side's goalkeeper to keep the score at 2-0.

Midfielder Wasiima Mohammed was taken off minutes into the second due to injury while Tottenham Hotspur forward Persis Martha Oteng made her debut late in the game, replacing Nyame.

The Black Princesses are now a game away from qualifying for a seventh successive World Cup with the second leg set to be played at the Baba Yara Stadium on January 21.
