The Coalition for Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has announced its plan to deploy 4,000 observers nationwide for the upcoming December 7 elections.
As a member of the Global Network of Domestic Election Monitors (GNDEM), CODEO adheres to the "Declaration of Global Principles for Non-Partisan Election Observation and Monitoring by Citizen Organizations."
These observers will serve as Rapid Response Observers (RROs) and will be stationed at a representative sample of polling stations across all 275 constituencies in the 16 regions of Ghana.
Their primary role will be to monitor the electoral process and ensure transparency and fairness.
In an interview with Asaase Radio on Wednesday, July 31, Kojo Asante from the CODEO Secretariat highlighted additional initiatives aimed at combating disinformation and misinformation during the election period.
“Come election time we will deploy up to 4,000 observers across the country and as we have done in previous elections since 2008, we will deploy the parallel vote tabulation that will allow us to independently verify the presidential results as well.”
“And we have other complementary interventions around disinformation and misinformation with other civil society organisations because we think that is also going to be a big challenge,” Dr Asante said.
