The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers(CODEO) has cautioned political parties in the country against the use of incendiary language as it can lead to dire consequences in the upcoming elections.
CODEO says political parties can address concerns about electoral processes without resorting to violence or the use of incendiary language, therefore, must act in that regard.
"CODEO cautions all political parties to desist from the use of incendiary language that unnecessarily polarizes the country along ethnic and extremely partisan lines as this can lead to dire consequences for the country in the short to long term," the group said in a statement.
The coalition cautioned the parties after it observed that political parties resorted to other modes, instead of the prescribed, to address concerns in the just ended voter registration exercise.
In the Coalition's Preliminary report(III) on the just ended biometric voter registration exercise, the group says it observed that political parties resorted to violence and the use of incendiary language to challenge processes they did not deem fit in the exercise.
However CODEO believes stakeholders can raise genuine concerns about electoral processes without necessarily using unprescribed and polarizing language.
It therefore want parties to act in that regard.
The group further called on the National Election Security Task Force to constantly engage all key stakeholders including political parties on security arrangements for the December polls to bolster stakeholder confidence and trust in election security.
