COCOBOD is forecasting a production target of 950,000 metric tonnes of cocoa beans for the next crop season.
This is based on documents submitted to parliament by COCOBOD for the necessary consideration.
According to COCOBOD, the forecast is based on some measures that they have implemented over the years and some good agronomic practices being adopted over the years.
Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Joseph Boahene Aidoo in a recent interview with JoyBusiness indicated they would not be able to meet its target of 930, 000 metric tonnes of cocoa production this year.
This is based on some diseases that have affected some cocoa trees which would eventually affect production.
He added, “We have started cutting down some trees because of these diseases and that would eventually affect production target.”
Mr Aidoo was however confident based on some measures that they have implemented that would help it hit this new target that they have set for 2019/2020 crop season.
Ghana has struggled to hit that record one million metric tonnes of cocoa that it achieved in 2011.
Some have attributed this challenge to the price that was offered to the farmers as well as some agronomics practices that have not help production.
