The arrest of a 31-year-old Nigerian businessman based in Italy, Mathew Eneeboifo by the Narcotic Control Board at the Kotoka International Airport on October 27 for possessing ten pallets of cocaine weighing 200 grams, has led to the arrest of his Ghanaian accomplice.
Eneeboifo was apprehended on suspicion of carrying drugs by an official of the Narcotics Control Board while going through formalities to board an Alitalia flight to Italy.
He initially denied carrying cocaine until he was sent to the 37 Military Hospital for testing which proved to be positive.
He later admitted swallowing four pallets of cocaine and inserting six more into his anus. Upon further interrogation, he said the drugs were given to him by one Francis Kojo Vorleamesi, a Ghanaian based in Lagos to be sent to his (Francis’) brother, Tony Axor in Italy.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Narcotic Control Board, Francis Opoku Amoah, on Sunday, October 28, a team of investigators accompanied by the suspect arrested the said Francis Vorleamesi at T/J Hotel at Madina in Accra.
They found various sums; 1000 Euros, 700 dollars and GH¢444 (¢4,440,000) on Francis.
The first suspect Mathew Eneeboifo told Joy News he was assured by the owner and intended recipient of the cocaine, Tony Axor that he could easily go through the Kotoka International Airport because security was lax.
Tony Axor’s brother Francis Vorleamesi denied knowing that the parcel he delivered to Mathew was cocaine.
Mr. Opoku Amoah told the media that on that same day, the Board intercepted an EMS parcel containing Cannabis at the premises of the Aviance Cargo Limited at the Airport destined to the United Kingdom.
He added that the Board also intercepted a polythene bag with three hammocks painted the colours of the nation, containing cannabis also destined to the United Kingdom on Friday 26th of October. No arrests have been made so far in the last two cases.
