A Circuit Court in Dormaa-Ahenkro on Friday sentenced a 70 year-old Cobbler, Kwadwo Adu, aka “No Way” to seven years in jail for defiling a six year old child. Adu pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting, Inspector Abraham Oduro, told the court presided over by Mr. Ahmed Yusif Asibey, that the complainant, is an elder sister to the victim, who is a Kindergarten pupil of the Nana Kyeraa Preparatory School, at Kofibadukrom, a suburb of the Dormaa Municipality.
He said the accused person is a cobbler and a labourer, and also resident at Kofibadukrom.
The Prosecutor stated that the accused person was usually seen with children offering them candies and money.
Inspector Oduro said on Sunday, February 15, 2015 during the day, the victim visited the accused person in his house together with another child of her age who was a witness in the case.
He added that Adu took advantage of the presence of the two children in his house and had sexual intercourse with them in turns and gave them an amount of GH¢0.30p each.
On Monday, February 16, 2015, the victim did not go to school and subsequently went to the accused house and once again. Adu had sexual intercourse with the victim on various counts and inserted a stick into the victim’s vagina which wounded her.
The victim, the Prosecutor stated, started to bleed profusely and went home thereafter in pains, walking with legs apart. A witness detected some blood stains on the dress of the victim and alerted her parents.
The parents upon examining her found blood coming out of her vagina and questioned her but the victim could not give any tangible answer.
Inspector Oduro said on February 17, 2015, the victim bled profusely and thereafter told her parents that the accused person had had sexual intercourse with her.
She was subsequently sent to the Presbyterian Hospital, in Dormaa -Ahenkro where she was admitted for three days for treatment.
A complaint was subsequently lodged at the Police Station, and the accused person was arrested and detained for investigations.
The Prosecutor said in the course of investigations, Adu informed the Police that, he had used his fingers and a stick to penetrate the victim’s vagina. The accused person was subsequently charged with the offence.
