Ex-Berekum Chelsea trainer, Yusif Abubakar has confirmed he is on the verge of joining Asante Kotoko as an assistant coach.
The move to Kotoko is a dream come true for the ex-Hearts of Oak trainer who has been hoping for an improved job in the premier league after working as assistant to Orlando Wellington in Chelsea’s title winning season.
The young coach is still in talks with the Porcupine Warriors but explains the deal is almost done.
Speaking to JOY Sports’ Daniel Oduro, Coach Yusif Abubakar said, “I was asked to come and help Maxwell Konadu and they may also bring in a white man or a technical director."
He added that, “One thing about me is that I don’t look at the position I am going to work but I look at what contribution I am going to add and what I am also going to gain from the coaches that I am going to work with, and what I can also exhibit. That is more important to me. That means I will still be learning something from some people and that is very good for me.”
The latest development means Serbian trainer Bogdan Korak could be leaving the club. Korak’s tactics was constantly questioned last season despite the team’s recovery from a poor start to finish 3rd in the league, a feat many credit quality signings for achieving rather than the coaches tactics.
