A crucial qualification battle for Ghana’s Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold looms large this weekend as the return leg of the CAF/MTN Champions League competition returns.
Two of Ghana’s contenders for the title would be seeking to advance to the next stage of the preliminary rounds in the competition when the play in return legs of the competition.
Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold both go into the second leg qualifier clinging to 1-0 leads from their first leg ties as they remain hopeful in their quest for the title in the for the US$3.5million competition.
The Porcupine Warriors are away in Banjul to Gambian side, Port Authority without Turkish coach, Telat Uzum who has left the club after failing to agree on a salary package with the club’s management.
However, former player and coach, Karim Zito has been put in temporal charge and is expected to lift the team’s morale to as he seeks to steer the club past the Port side.
Kotoko, twice winners of the club-competition won the first leg game through a second-half spot kick converted by defender Dan Acquah. But they face a rather tough task as Port Authority welcome back five regular players who were missed the first leg tie in Obuasi.
At the Len Clay stadium on Sunday, AshantiGold who managed an impressive 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea side, Renacimiento would be home after a decade's absence from the competition.
The Miners, 1997 silver medalist in the tournament are expected to complete the double over their opponents.
Officials of the club however say they are not getting carried away by their first leg win as they seek to avoid any complacency.
