Coach of newly promoted side Dreams FC, CK Akunnor has expressed fear that the league would be put on yet another rollercoaster of uncertainty following a recent ruling by the Ghana Football Association’s Ethics Committee to demote Techiman City.
The GFA earlier this week announced the decision to demote Techiman City along with Wa Africa United following investigations into match fixing and bribery involving the two clubs in Division One last season.
Akunnor is amongst a host of stakeholders who fear that the decision by Techiman City to seek redress any means possible will hold back the start of the new premier league season again.
In an interview with Joy Sports, Akunnor hopes that lessons can be learned from similar incidents abroad where issues such as these did not prevent play on the field from going on smoothly.
“It happened to Juventus and recently Real Madrid but the process went on. I just hope that this will not derail the process and then we have to wait and restart. It is uncalled for.”
The manager is however optimistic in equal measure that peace will prevail as he prepares his side to play top flight football for the first time in its history.
“However, we know the date has been set and so for me I am looking forward to the 20th February. The people want to see us start the league; they want to see us play.”
Dreams FC will travel to Cape Coast to face Ebusua Dwarfs in their first ever league game.
